At Times it just Works Out.
I am happy to have been presented this opportunity more so to be able to take advantage of it. I did manage to miss two chances of capturing a Red Tailed Hawk. I confess to missing them a lot, I would venture to say 6 times a week.

Rain ending Wildfire Season.
I would like to start leaving food out for them but they will choose meat over any other food and I really don’t want to set it out for them. Peanuts, Sunflower Seeds or Corn I will but none of that will draw them in as long as the pasture across the slough supplies them with carrion. None the less it’s been a great few days; just taking it as it comes along.

The Storm.
We have rainfalls accompanied with high winds they together cause a few issues however the actual calamity is a combination of issues. Mudslides are nearly instantaneous when the soil gets wet, most of the Mountains are loosely packed shale the rain acts as a lubricant causing the rocks to slide.

Wildfire.
The fires move fast some have been clocked at 60mph making short work of an Island 15 miles long. The Paradise fire was moving so fast (60mph+) people were not able to outrun it, this has to be stopped.

Things do Change.
I’m wondering why all of the critters appear larger to me this year, but then again when a person gets to my age a number of things kind of morph. Everyone is beautiful, the young grandkids are way too smart and I’m beginning to do what Mrs. Lebec tells me to. Ahh will wonders ever cease?

The Migration will begin soon.
the migrating birds will be making a comeback within the next 3-4 weeks, if they are on my schedule. I notice there is snow already in some parts of the North where the Canadians and Terns begin their journeys South. They will be followed by the various Goose species and Ducks; how many will land on our slough is anyones guess. I

September 1st.
One of the reasons they are fast fliers is due to their streamlined body, the wings seem to be a bit oversized for their torso. But I really have no idea, but common sense tells me that pointy beak, those big wings and the stamina of the small bird it should be no surprise they are quick.

Gulls
The weather guessers are predicting the wind will shift again from the Ocean. It will then blow the nasty air Eastward where people in the mid North are smelling wood smoke in the rain. All smoke settles on the ground sooner or later, rain helps it along hence the smell. The firefighters along with the emergency response teams are doing an amazing job, they just keep on keeping on.

There is Still a Lot Going On.
I take pictures every day for an hour or so at least normally I am able to get a few of Hawks, Crows and various Falcons. They have all flown to less suppressing areas with no wind and at least less smoke; its hard telling where they went the entire state is on fire.
