I Didn’t Expect this First Thing in the Morning.
It’s good to be able to return to my old rut regimen for that past two days, a weather change is happening; winter is not far off. The Turkey Vultures were out before daybreak normally that spot is reserved for the Night Herons;

Nothing Much Shakin’ on the Slough.
This morning I spied a large bird on one of the Power Structures, it was too far away to identify but it was the size and shape of a large predator. It may have been an Eagle although they are not common inland as they mostly occupy the Coast; perhaps it will show again tomorrow, it’s curious how these things happen.

A Few Clear Days; Another Fire.
Everyone in the family with the exception of the mid-northerners and New Yorkers are dealing with heavy smoke. Even Colorado, my daughter is socked in by the 3rd largest wildfire in Colorado history. If we’re not careful this could get serious real quick.

Few are Odder than an Otter.
Last week the family of 5 Otters spent a while on the abandoned dock, then this morning a lone male showed up. I assume he has been forced to leave his families den to strike out on his own, hey life is cruel.

The Sky Cleared Again; We’ll Take It.
The early sun accompanied with the deep blue sky invites the birds out to the slough early in the morning.

I Thought That Was My Ship Coming In.
Having coffee while watching a few bulk carrier ships work their way upstream or down winding their way under the Antioch Bridge, is an interesting wake up call.

Everything Looks So Far Away; Since the Smoke Cleared.
The fires nearest here are 98% contained, at this juncture it means they are out and some of the crew stays behind to take care of hot spots. I hope there are no more.

The Smoke Has Cleared; It’s Wake-up on the Slough.
Early morning brought a nice change, the sky was clear; visibility was over 16 miles. The heavy dew and fog helped bring the fires under control. We can’t celebrate yet as the fire season has just begun.

The Smoke is Clearing now It’s Weeding Watering Waiting.
The smoke is beginning to clear, I am able to venture into the great outdoors once again to work in the garden, and take photos.

Raising Earthworms Makes Sense For Gardeners.
A few precautions should not deter anyone’s interest in the ecologically positive activity, my opinion is everyone should have at least one Colony. With a minimum of protection Vermiculture is safe, each of us develops during the learning curve the level we need to remain safe. Starting small assisted with research a size-able Colony can be realized within the first year.
